Pilgrims would soon travel in trains over the new Pamban Bridge to reach the holy town.<\/p>\n<p>Old Pamban Bridge was a tourist attraction; many travellers would come to the road bridge connecting Mandapam with Rameshwaram and halt in the middle to shoot pictures of it.<\/p>\n<p>Legends say that Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, had installed the Shiva Lingam here and worshipped it to obtain relief from sins arising out of slaying Ravanasura.<\/p>\n<p>The older version of the iconic structure had aged significantly and was not considered safe for usage. A decision was taken to construct the new bridge.<\/p>\n<p>By the early 21st century, the old Pamban Bridge could no longer meet the demands of modern transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The increasing volume of traffic and the need for faster and safer connectivity prompted the government to envision a new structure that would be technologically advanced, durable, and future-ready.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian government sanctioned the reconstruction under Supplementary Demands for Grants (2018-19).<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few visual glimpses of the new mighty structure that will win the hearts of all and leave an unforgettable impression.<\/p>\n<p>All 99 approach spans were launched efficiently during the bridge&#8217;s construction process.
