After three decades in power, Chad&#8217;s President Idriss Deby died on Tuesday, 19<sup>th <\/sup>April 2021, from wounds suffered on the battlefield. Military announced this news to the nation just one day after the election results in the country declared Deby as the winner for sixth consecutive term with 80% of the votes polled in favour of him. In an interesting development, Military has suspended the rule of the land and has established The transitional council which has been tasked with an 18-month transition towards &#8216;free and democratic elections.&#8217; This council will be headed by General Mahamat Idriss Deby, son of the deceased President.<\/p>\n\n<p>So, what lies ahead for conflict ridden country, which has been the most important strategic ally to France in the Sahel region in counter terrorism operations?
