Silver screen\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0any exception. \u2018Lights, Camera and Action\u2019\u00a0clatter\u00a0has reverberated film sets world over less than the normal. But\u00a0Los Angeles&#8217; Union Station\u00a0in USA dared to dream and laid out the red carpet to host the most awaited and cherished award show of the cinematic world &#8211; The Oscars. On 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2021, 93<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0Academy Award returned with all its\u00a0opulence\u00a0to inspire exuberance in a world otherwise tucked behind the screens of pandemic blues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7282\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7282\" style=\"width: 303px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7282\" src=\"https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.30.54-am-300x205.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.30.54-am-300x205.png 300w, https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.30.54-am.png 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Royal but restrained<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Apart from being held at a changed location for the first time in over a decade, the event also went crowdless and hostless this edition. Maskless celebrities did bring glory to glamour but the list of \u2018vaccinated\u2019 attendees missed many who skipped the award show due to travel restrictions. Earlier, in a debated move, Academy denied the option of attendance via online media platforms and sent communique to all nominees to attend the ceremony in person.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The spirit of inclusion in the nominee list was something that had already triggered a buzz. The list had many striking firsts. For the very first time, an\u00a0all-Black producing team of \u2018Judas\u2019 was nominated for best picture, two actors of Asian descent were nominated in best actor category and two women were nominated for best director.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7292\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7292\" style=\"width: 918px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7292 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.53.35-am.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"918\" height=\"522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.53.35-am.png 918w, https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.53.35-am-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/medialit.in\/thevoices\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-27-at-12.53.35-am-768x437.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 918px) 100vw, 918px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Promising trends<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The list of winners too maintained the spirit of inclusion.\u00a0Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean performer to win Oscar. She won it in the best supporting Actress category, for her role in\u00a0Lee Isaac Chung&#8217;s drama film,\u00a0<em>Minari.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Chinese Filmmaker\u00a0Chlo\u00e9 Zhao, become only the second woman in the history to win the award in the best Director Category for\u00a0<em>Nomadland<\/em>, which also secured the laurels in the best Picture category on the decorated night.\u00a0Frances McDormand too, went on to win her third best actress Oscar in\u00a0The\u00a0best Actress category for\u00a0<em>Nomadland<\/em>.\u00a0The desire to see normalcy\u00a0being restored was visible in her winning speech. McDormand said\u00a0\u201cOne day very, very soon, take everyone you know into a theatre, shoulder to shoulder, in that dark space, and watch every film that\u2019s represented here tonight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In a notable surprise, Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for\u00a0<em>The Father<\/em>\u00a0over the late Chadwick Boseman, who was on a spree to grab the\u00a0honours\u00a0in the category in the current award season for his performance in\u00a0<em>Black Bottom<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Ripples of emotion came in for Indian Cinema lovers, through the\u00a0<em>Memorium<\/em>\u00a0segment at the ceremony. Apart from\u00a0Chadwick Boseman, Cicely Tyson, Sean Connery and others,\u00a0The\u00a0<em>Memorium<\/em>\u00a0segment at the Academy Awards also paid tribute to Indian Actor Irrfan Khan, and Costume Designer Bhanu\u00a0Atahiya. Irrfan Khan, who featured in Danny Boyle\u2019s Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire succumbed to a\u00a0neuro-endocrine tumor in April, 2020.
