The palpitating hearts of 12th standard CBSE students can finally relax. The long-due decision on the board exams for class 12 CBSE students was finally taken by the board of a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The decision was announced by the board in favor of canceling the 12th Board CBSE exams. \u201cGovernment of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth.\u201d tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A myriad of emotions is seen among students, parents and\u00a0 teachers after the decision by the board on the cancellation of exams. The reaction and emotions are mixed.<\/p>\n

An education counselor from Delhi\u00a0 Jitin Chawla pointed out. \u201cRight now, the students who have put in a lot of efforts might be feeling disheartened but the hard work you have put in will definitely bring in benefit for you.\u201d Chawla says.<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cThe weighted average formula as adopted by CBSE giving weightage to preboards more, half yearly exams and some amount of weightage to 11th std and 10th std also.\u201d Talking about university admissions he adds that, \u201cUniversities need to opt for CUCET- Central Universities Common Entrance Test.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The grading pattern to be followed by CBSE is yet to be decided. However,\u00a0 Sanyam Bharadwaj, Controller of Exams CBSE has released a notification stating. \u201cClass XII assessment will be made as per a well-defined objective criterion in a time-bound manner. It is decided that any student who is not satisfied with the assessment, an option to appear in the examinations would be provide by CBSE as and when the situation becomes conducive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered , both CBSE and ISCE to present the parameters to be used for the assessment of students within two weeks after the cancellation of exams.<\/p>\n\n

However, some people from the academic fraternity are not happy with the decision \u201cThe entire debate was around offline exams whereas online exams were not even considered an option. There could have been arrangements made to reach out to students who lacked in giving in a digital exam. But alas nothing was done and such a major decision taken just like that.\u201d Says Nita Arora, Principal of SVIS School, Dwarka.<\/p>\n\n

On the same sentiments, a senior educationist Kanta Pradhan says that \u201cFor the sake of the children and for their safety it\u2019s a good decision taken by the Govt. But I personally feel it\u2019s a setback for the bright students who were relying on their admissions to the elite colleges based on their performance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

On the other hand, several students are quite relieved by the decision, as this decision has finally put an end to the stress they were facing regarding the procedure by which the exams would be conducted. \u201cI was a bit disheartened owing to the efforts we all have put in preparing for the exams but nevertheless we have opportunities to better prepare for entrances now and get into our dream colleges.\u201d says Urvi Behel, a 12th Std Student of Apeejay School, Faridabad.<\/p>\n\n

Some students and parents to are also quite disheartened at this announcement. They feel that there should have been some way of conducting the exams rather than cancelling them altogether. Talking on similar lines, Anju Nathani, a parent of a 12th Std student said, \u201cMy daughter is really upset about the news. She feels that that the pleasure of walking that extra mile to achieve a goal is now gone. We however, completely understand the decision was taken as a need of the hour, not risking the lives of our kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

“The arbitrariness of the marking system for the students and the process of admissions for the various top universities in India will also be a difficult task. Universities solely depending on merit-based admissions will have a tough time evaluating the scores,\u201d says Prof Satya Prakash Prasad, Assistant Controller of Examination and Public Information Officer, Jamia Milia Islamia.<\/p>\n\n

Talking about the solution, senior educationist Neena Newar feels, \u201cThe focus now of all the schools must be on preparing the result based on a well-defined objective criterion which will be brought out soon and, in a time -bound manner as declared by the government. Students on the other hand must focus on preparing themselves for the entrance exams of the Universities. Success lies ahead beyond just the board scores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

It is noteworthy that the ICSE Board, states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have also cancelled the 12th state board exams, following the CBSE Board decision.<\/p>\n
