The final counting of votes polled in the 2022 Assembly elections to five states has ended. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as the winner in Punjab. The BJP is looking at a shining 250-plus tally in Uttar Pradesh as Yogi Adityanath is all set to hold the reigns as Chief Minister to rule for his second consecutive term in the state.
The BJP has spread its saffron wave in Goa, with 20 out of 40 seats, 47 of 70 seats in the Uttarakhand assembly, and 32 out of 60 assembly seats in the Northeastern state of Manipur. Even though this year BJP has managed to back 4 states, the number of MLAs has reduced from 406 in 2017 to 357 in 2022.
The BJP is the first party to win a second consecutive term, after completing the first term with the same CM for 5 years. It is the first time since 1985 that a ruling party will return to power in Uttar Pradesh. Although there has been a significant drop in the seats the party has won, the party still clinches strongly over the state.
The Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party witnessed its consecutive defeat. However, managing to place itself in the second position in the assembly elections by bagging 111 seats, the party has improved from its defeat in the 2017 elections.
Not alone in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has once again won with a clear majority of 47 seats in Uttarakhand while leaving 19 for Congress and 4 for others. In comparison to its 2017 elections, the party has seen a significant downfall in response of 10 seats in the state, which might make the BJP leaders think once about where they are going wrong.
In a twisted turn of events, the people of Punjab have delivered a shocking verdict as the reigns of the state got handed over to Aam Aadmi Party. AAP has emerged as the single largest party in the state by winning 92 seats out of 114. The Chief Ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann won the elections with a margin of 58,206 votes from Dhuri.
The BJP has been unable to set its foot in Punjab while the Congress, on the other hand, has lost its foothold as they have gained only 18 seats this year.
The lotus also grew in Manipur after bagging 31 seats alone in the 2022 elections, making BJP the single largest party in the state. Though in 2017, Congress had gained 28 seat majority. In 2022, the party has hit the rock with only 05 seats in the kitty this year.
BJP is ready to set its foot in Goa as it has gained half of 40 seats of the state assembly and support from 3 independent MLAs. In 2017, BJP had formed the government by arranging support of 3 MLAs from Goa Forward Party and the MGP, and two independent candidates, grabbing away the chance from Congress who had won 17 seats. Congress has managed to win 11 seats this year.
