The Voices is an initiative by the SOJNMS students of IGNOU to enhance practical, hands-on learning of all aspects of journalism. 

“The Voices is another milestone in School of Journalism and New Media Studies’ (SOJNMS) academic endeavours. It is a national lab journal brought out by the students of MA in Journalism and Digital Media (MAJDM) and PG Diploma in Digital Media (PGDIDM)

Though these programmes are offered through open and distance education mode, through this exercise, students have proved that distance is immaterial. Even during COVID-19 pandemic situation, students from across the country enthusiastically initiated the magazine process.

Story selection, identifying a news angle, deliberating on news treatment, and sourcing photographs are carried through the daily edit meets on Telegram App, and occasional live discussions via Google Meet. Stories are coming from different corners of the country. The editorial team members are from north, east, west and south of the country.

The most significant advantage of this students’ initiative is that many of them are working journalists, so they bring their vast knowledge and industry experience to the learning community, and that helps young graduates to learn from their classmates. It is truly an online-based collaborative learning initiative.

The efforts of students’ journalistic efforts will continue on a regular frequency.“
