'I am the Peepal tree among the trees,
Narada among the sages,
Chitraaratha among the Gandharvas,
And sage Kapila among the Siddhas.'
-- The Bhagvat Gita
(Chapter 10: Yoga of Manifestation)
This year’s theme for world environment days is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’
This term is best explained by a person who understands the ecosystem and has dedicated his life to restoring it.
“Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting, and reversing the damage caused by human activities and finally healing nature. This human activity is called collective karma, of humans.” says Prem Parivartan, popularly known as Peepal Baba.
The journey of Peepal Baba began at a tender age. “My Nani used to ask me, ‘ How many houses did you build for the birds today?’ when I used to come home in the evening after a plantation spree.” he exclaims with a child like exuberance in his voice.
Peepal baba is the man who is responsible for planting over 20 Million trees across the nation. Out of these Peepal Trees being around 12.5 million, about 4 million Neem Trees, over 2 million Fruit Trees and 2 million shrubs and small trees as well.
He says, “We often imagine about aliens coming to our planet and destroying it, I feel we are the aliens who have made sure to damage the planet as much as possible. Have you ever heard an animal or a bird harming nature? They are in harmony with nature, we are the real aliens who came from outside and destroyed everything. Now when we are done with the damage, we are targeting mars and the moon.”
His mission in life is to add as many trees as possible, to make people aware, to create an army to fight destruction with life and creation , a man who has dedicated his entire life to not just protect mother nature but literally save humanity from itself.
Humans as a species must re-evaluate their role in the grand plan of things.
As these naturists explain, technically it is not the nature that is in danger. Nature was here long before humans made an entry, and it will still be here and probably do better after humans are long gone.
We are privileged to share the inspiring journey of the great man in his own words…
