India’s legislative committee, the appointments committee of the cabinet, has named senior Indian Administrative Service officer Vikram Dev Dutt as the incumbent Chairman and Managing Director of state-run flag carrier Air India Ltd, according to a government statement.
The appointment becomes effective at a time when the flag carrier has been acquired by Tata Group. In October, 2021, Tata Sons had clinched a bid to purchase Air India via a special purpose company at an enterprise value of Rs 18,000 crore.
Prior to the current appointment, Dutt was Principal Secretary in Delhi government’s Health and Family Welfare department and later in the Services department in March 2021.
The pending disinvestment of cash-strapped Air India is one of the major deals which is considered vital for the federal government to meet its Rs 1.75 lakh crore revenue aim via the sale of state-run assets for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022
